More old cars at Old Car City

Went to another "meetup" with a local photography club this last weekend at "Old Car City" in White, GA. Lots and lots of old cars for miles.

I took my Linhof Master Technika again with my 75mm Biogon and 150mm Xenotar. Here's some of the black and white images I shot (on T-Max 100):

I also shot some color film - a bit of Fuji 160S (the first 4 photos) and Velvia 50 (the other 3):

One more image from Mt. Yonah

When Meagan and I climbed partway up Mt. Yonah a couple of weeks ago, I took one image on Velvia 50 (as well as b&w). Finally developed that and decided I like it much better than the b&w image. Thought I would post that one here as well. This is cropped slightly to a square format size just like the other image:

Taken with a Linhof Master Technika 4x5 and 150mm Schneider APO-Symmar lens. I love how Velvia makes the sky bluer than "real life." No need for a polarizer with that film.

Old Cars - Talmo, GA

Met up with a member of the Southeastern Photographic Society for a little meet-up at a farm with lots of old cars sitting around. Decided to bring out my Linhof Master Technika 4x5 along with some of my favorite lenses - 75mm Biogon, 150mm Xenotar, and 250mm Sonnar. Shot mostly T-Max 100 and some Fuji 160 - here are the results:

This was definitely a cool place and I will be going again for sure!

Water and Movement (Amicalola Creek)

I went to Amicalola Creek a couple of times last week and shot on the rocks. I took some long exposures as well as some shorter ones:

The above images were taken with my Chamonix 45n1 and 90mm, 150mm, or 240mm lenses, some with a 6x12 back. After this I found a wonderfully swirly area near the bank and took this image both on 4x5 and 6x12 (with 90mm and then 58mm):

I explored the smaller side pool closer up next:

I really liked this area so I came back the next day and shot some more here with my Linhof 70:

And finally, utilizing that little pool with swirling water, I made a "tri-color" image using 3 shots with 3 colored filters (R/G/B). Combined in Photoshop and put into each color channel created this image:

Yes, this is black and white film, but creating color, same as was done by Sergey Prokudin-Gorsky in Russia about a century ago. I've done this a couple of times utilizing moving water and I would like to build a body of work using this technique, but it is difficult to find the right conditions and subject (and many times I don't necessarily have the materials and filters to do it when photographing).

This location is very nice and I am looking forward to shooting more here in the spring and summer by getting in the water and finding new perspectives.

First excursion to Mt. Yonah

Meagan and I decided to explore Mt. Yonah, near Helen, GA last week. This is a very nice mountain that I've been meaning to go to. It turns out the hike to the summit is a bit longer than I expected, so we didn't quite make it all the way up before we had to get started back as it was getting late.

I definitely want to hike to the summit and it also seems like a great place for astrophotography and/or camping.

I took my Linhof Master Technika along with a few lenses, including my Nikkor 90mm f/8, Schneider 150mm f/5.6 APO Symmar, and a new 240mm f/9 G-Claron I wanted to try.

First, near the bottom I shot one panoramic image with a 6x12 back of the trees:

Going up the mountain, there wasn't a whole lot to see as these trees obscure the view. But I did take a few images here and there:

Finally, at the halfway point is a big open area good for camping with a nice view. The sun was not in a great place for shooting out at the vista but I did like the moon that had just risen over the "face" of Yonah:

Quick Stop at Natural Bridge, Virginia

Driving to Washington D.C., I was intrigued when I saw signs for "Natural Bridge, VA." It was exactly that - a natural rock bridge that is actually still used today for vehicular traffic! No big rigs though!

The rock arch was an amazing sight to see! Unfortunately I didn't have a ton of time to spend there, and it actually started snowing when I was there so I hightailed it out of there as I didn't want to get stuck in snow since I'm not terribly used to driving in snow.

Here's two shots of the bridge:

Definitely will be coming back here next time I am driving this way (hopefully it'll be a nice day then).

I also took one other photo of this neat tree that is different from anything I've seen before:

I shot a few other images on the way, in North Carolina and Virginia, in some random small towns I stopped in:

All these \were shot with my Pentax 67ii and 55mm f/4.
